HOYA Pastoral

Home of HOYA  Heritage Australian Stock Horse Stud

Our horses are handled from birth and are raised with the herd until 2 years of age. We breed for intelligence and natural cow sense using old working blood lines and because of this, our horses are HSH (Heritage Stock Horse) recognised.  They descend from the same horses used in WW1 (Walers) and those bred for early stock and station work. We train using natural horsemanship methods derived from techniques taught by Anthony Desreaux and Buck Brannaman and the legacy of Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance.

Our aim is to create a union between rider and horse so that both can feel safe and accepted. We don't always get it right but we keep trying and learn from our horses...

"Your horse is a mirror to your soul.  Sometimes you might not like what you see… sometimes you will.” ~ Buck Brannaman

We sell handled 1 and 2 year olds and also a  limited numbers of started horses.

A sometimes overlooked fact is that heritage Australian Stock Horses come in a range of colours. This includes cream dilutions (Palominos, Buckskins, Perlinos and Cremellos), silver dilutions (Taffy and Silver Dapple), Pied/Pinto (as long as the white is less than 70%) and just about any other colour you can think of. As a secondary principle and being careful to preserve  conformation and cattle working ability, we are retaining those lines of heritage stock horses with genes for colour that are disappearing from our breed.
